Masters FAQs
What is the Masters section?
The Masters section is found under Catalog in the Synchtank Admin. It contains all the sound recordings in your system. Most of the information entered here will be reflected on your front-end platform.
What information can I add to a Master?
Each Master record includes the following sections:
- Sound Recording Information — title, ISRC, custom and legacy IDs, P line, P year, and duration
- Contractual Rights — ownership, publishing rights, territory, one-stop or easy clear status
- Creative Metadata — genres, moods, keywords, instruments, key, tempo, and lyrics
- Automated Metadata Tags — automatically generated by Synchtank's tagging system
- Web Site Visibility & Restricted Permissions — controls whether the Master appears on the front-end and who can access it
- Files — artwork, MP3, WAV, and other audio files
How do I create a new Master?
Navigate to Catalog → Masters and click the green Create button in the top right corner. Fill in the relevant details and click Save.
How do I edit an existing Master?
Find the Master in the list, click into it, then select the blue Edit icon in the top right corner. Make your changes and click the green Save icon.
What are Child Masters?
Child Masters are derivative versions of an original recording — such as alternate versions, cut-downs, instrumentals, or remixes. Linking them to a parent track keeps your catalog organised and groups all related versions together.
How do I link Child Masters to a Parent track?
- Go to Catalog → Masters and find the tracks you want to link
- Select the child masters and click Edit
- In the Sound Recording Information section, find the Parent Master field
- Search for and select the original (parent) track
- Click Apply to all and save
How do I upload audio files?
Go to Import Tools → Audio Upload → Create. Drag and drop your audio files, add metadata, and click Upload. Metadata from the files will be extracted automatically and can be adjusted before completing the upload.
Can I bulk edit Masters?
Yes. Select the Masters you want to edit in the list and click the pen icon at the top. You can edit them individually in the middle panel or apply the same changes to all selected tracks using the right panel.
Can I upload stems?
Yes. Open the Master, go to the Stems tab, click the blue Edit button, and select Upload Stem. Fill in the title, stem type, and ISRC (if applicable), upload the file, and save. You can also generate stems automatically through the AudioShake integration.
How do I run a report on my Masters?
Go to Reports in the Synchtank Admin, click Create New, select Masters as the report type, apply any filters, and save. The report can be downloaded as a CSV file and opened in Excel.
Can I bulk edit Masters using a spreadsheet?
Yes. Run a Masters report first to get the correct column headings, update the data in Excel, then re-upload via Import Tools → Import Spreadsheet → Masters. Do not add, remove, or change the structure of the columns as this will cause upload errors.
